Coram’s Fields Café: A New Social Enterprise

Coram’s Fields Café: A New Social Enterprise

The café at Coram’s Fields is going to re-open again on Tuesday 7th May!

As many of our park users will know, the café closed in early 2018, following the termination of our contract with our previous café provider. Initially, we made several attempts to identify a new tenant for our café, but this proved unsuccessful. It was difficult to find someone that was able to provide the level and quality of service that we aspire towards. As a result, we were unable to have a café on-site for our visitors.

With the advice and guidance of BeanBag Café, an organisation which supports community groups to run their own sustainable cafes, we took the decision to run the café ourselves as a social enterprise. This is beneficial to us as a charity, as it means all the money raised from the café will help us to run the park and services that you love. It will also provide opportunities to train and employ local young people as café assistants, who will gain valuable skills whilst being supported and supervised by our Café Manager, Kelly Royes. Kelly is very excited to be joining Coram’s Fields and making a huge success of this social enterprise!

Every purchase you make in our cafe will directly benefit local children and young people!

We would like to say a huge thank you to the construction company, Mace Interiors. The physical state of our café meant that it required considerable investment, to get it to an acceptable standard from which a successful social enterprise could be operated. Funds which, as a charity, we would have struggled to raise. Mace Interiors’ community volunteering programme has enabled us to refurbish the café far beyond our original aspiration, with qualified volunteers from Mace’s supply chain fully refurbishing and reconfiguring the café. They have installed new flooring and panelling, upgraded the electricity and plumbing systems, installed new work surfaces and have supplied the white goods needed entirely free of charge! We would not be able to re-open the café to such a high standard without the incredible generosity of Mace Interiors – thank you!

The café will be open every day from 10am to 5pm with the exception of Saturdays, when it will be open from 9am to 5pm. All food will be freshly prepared on site with child-friendly lunchboxes and plenty of coffee on offer!
